Young Carer's update
One of our young carers received an exciting parcel from YouTube earlier this week! Her Japanese manga animation channel, Shizu! has been awarded the impressive Silver Creator Award for passing 100,000 subscribers on YouTube.
This incredible journey began in 2020, where she started a channel for fun and to have a creative outlet during lockdown. After uploading a few videos, one went viral and she began gaining more subscribers and views and it has been steadily growing ever since... with a current total of 34,850,000+ views!
This inspiring story shows her determination, focus and creativity is being recognised and celebrated by viewers all over the world and she has a bright future ahead on YouTube.
Young Carers snooze at the Zoo sleepover
Our young carers had the incredible opportunity to 'snooze at the zoo' at Dartmoor Zoological Park this weekend! This unique opportunity offers the chance to see and hear what life is like after the gates close between dusk and dawn, when many residents come out to play.
We had a fantastic itinerary that included a guided tour of the zoo, a close encounters session, an enrichment making workshop for the cheetahs and birds (the animals loved our toys!) and an exclusive night time torch lit trail to spot nocturnal animals which was followed by a campfire to toast marshmallows!
This amazing weekend provided the young carers with the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone and try something new, learn about different species and build positive relationships with each other whilst having fun!
Dental students Community Engagement Module - Yearbook 2022-2023
As part of their engagement module, dental students worked with a variety of different services and users, young carers were given the opportunity to attend a workshop with Peninsula Dental School.

Cost of living help on way to Plymouth households
More than 34,000 Plymouth households are set to benefit from cost of living support thanks to the Household Support Fund.
Plymouth City Council has received more than £4.5 million of funding to use over the coming year to support residents affected by the cost of living crisis.
The funding will support those most likely to be affected including families, single adults and people with disabilities that are on low incomes, pensioners, care experienced young people, unpaid carers and people living in temporary accommodation. Priority will be given to those who are at most at risk of food or fuel poverty.

Report from The Kings Fund: Perspective from Unpaid Carers
Unpaid carers provide significant levels of support to family or friends - equivalent to 4 million paid care workers. Carers often need support with their own health and wellbeing, but they are not always able to access this.
To understand the current picture of local support available for unpaid carers in England, we interviewed commissioners and providers of support to unpaid carers and ran focus groups with unpaid carers in four areas of England, spoke to national stakeholders and reviewed existing literature and national data sets.

A Sustainable child health resource
The North East and North Cumbria Child Health and Wellbeing Network (CHWN), working in partnership with the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare (CSH) and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) are proud to share the pioneering Sustainable Child Health resource: empowering professionals to address the impact of climate change on children and young people.

Carers Trusts Youth Advisory Panel
Carers Trust are still recruiting for a brand new Youth Advisory Panel. This will be a UK-wide collective of young & young adult carers aged 13 - 25 that will be directly involved with their Board of Trustees and in projects and activities that support young carers and young adult carers. There are a number of different ways to get involved with the Panel - please share the below information with young and young adult carers you work with, and with your networks.

Major Conditions Strategy
The government is writing a plan to deal with illnesses causing bad health and early death in England. It is called the major conditions strategy.
Your input in required as this will help know what you think should be in the plan.
The easy read version of the Major Conditions Strategy call for evidence is now live.
