Broken equipment and repairs

Broken Equipment and Repairs Panel

A functioning home environment is crucial for maintaining independence, especially for older adults or individuals with disabilities living in Plymouth.

However, dealing with broken appliances, malfunctioning mobility aids, or faulty communication devices can be stressful and disrupt your daily routine.

If something has broken, please contact the organisation that supplied or installed the equipment.

They will have the most in-depth knowledge of the equipment or aid and will be able to diagnose the problems and recommend repair options. This might mean that someone needs to visit your house, and it might also mean that rather than repairing the equipment, they might provide a new, like-for-like replacement.

If you have purchased the equipment or aid yourself, then you will need to pay for the cost of the repairs.

If your aid or equipment has been supplied by the council, then please call NRS Healthcare directly by calling 0345 6461860. If you need additional support, please call 01752 668000.

Tips for preventing equipment problems

By taking proactive measures, you can minimise the risk of equipment breakdowns and disruptions to your daily routine. Here are some helpful tips:

  • Regular maintenance: Schedule regular maintenance checks for your essential appliances. This can help identify potential problems before they become major issues. Many appliance manufacturers offer maintenance packages or online resources for cleaning and upkeep.
  • Surge protectors: Plug valuable electronics, including appliances and assistive technology devices, into surge protectors. These safeguards can prevent damage from electrical surges that can cause malfunctions.
  • Read user manuals: Understanding proper use and maintenance procedures for your equipment can help prevent accidental damage and extend its lifespan. Pay close attention to recommended cleaning techniques and weight limitations for mobility aids.
  • Proper Storage: Store mobility aids like wheelchairs and walkers in a safe, dry location. Avoid leaving them exposed to extreme temperatures or harsh weather conditions.
