Occupational Therapists treat individuals by assessing and working on functional ability, providing education for patients or carers, modifying ways of doing tasks, supplying equipment, recommending environmental modification, and organising services required to enable the patient to function as independently as possible within their own home.
There are Occupational Therapists working in most of the clinical areas in Derriford Hospital.
Our inpatient service at the Trust focuses on enabling people with temporary or long term disabilities to be discharged in a timely and safe manner, either to their own home or other hospitals. Our outpatient service provides home visits, or on-going treatment programmes, including for Hand patients or Rheumatology patients, who are under the care of the hospital.
