Barnardo's are commissioned by Plymouth City Council to deliver an advocacy and independent visitor service to children and young people across the city.

Contacts details

Telephone number: 01752 256339

Our work is supported by a team of trained volunteers.

Advocacy

This service is fully independent and available to Young People aged 6-18 years old (up to 25 if you have a disability).

It offers 1:1 advocacy support for Child Protection Meetings and Child in Care meetings. We can also support young people with the Local Authority complaints process.

This enables a child or young person's voice to be heard in meetings where decisions are made about their life. An advocate will ensure their views are taken into account during the decision-making process.

Where appropriate we will support and encourage young people to advocate for themselves.

Independent visitors

This service is fully independent and offers a long term supportive relationship to children and young people in care where the young person may have little or no positive contact with members of their own family.

The Independent Visitor is a reliable adult volunteer who offers long term consistency in a supportive relationship with the child or young person in care.

They will meet with the child or young person and do fun activities as well as supporting the young person to build their self-esteem, confidence and promote independence.

Theses services are available to young people aged

  • 6 to 11 years
  • 12 to 18 years and up to 25yrs if you have a disability.
