We are seeking to create and develop young people who are confident, highly skilled, and ambitious to contribute to our society with a deep understanding of shared international goals.

Our curriculum is designed to introduce our pupils to the best that has been thought and said and to help engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement. We aim to ensure your child will develop skills and knowledge across all the subject disciplines through depth and breadth, with a focus on our local context. We have built in progression and continuity across all curriculum areas so that children are taught key skills and then given the opportunity to apply them. Our curriculum reflects the diversity of our society and celebrates the rich multi-cultural history of our world.

We have three 'Big Ideas' that we believe children should understand by the time they are eleven:

  1. We are a 'values-based' school; our values determine our choices and behaviours and enable our culture to be challenging and supportive, creating confident young people.
  2. We serve our community both locally and internationally. Our children will understand the interconnectedness and responsibilities we have to make our world the best it can be for everyone.
  3. We believe in the power of oracy. Young people can make a positive difference and should feel empowered.

Our curriculum is designed to ensure these ideas are built on and strengthened.

Our school values diversity and challenges everyone to be the best they can be. We are constantly striving to improve teaching and learning, and our staff have very high ambitions for all.

We are proud of our school grounds, which provide excellent learning opportunities and are maintained by a group of volunteers who support our school, made up of parents, grandparents, and friends.

We are committed to ensuring that the progress of children from their relative starting points is very good and that our curriculum is highly engaging and challenging, with a focus on a rich curriculum offer that excites and inspires all.

At YFPS, we work hard to meet the needs of all pupils and we are a very inclusive school, valuing all individuals equally. We have a very experienced SEND team and work with a great group of professionals to help us to plan strategies to support children. Children are nurtured and encouraged to be the best they can be and learning is adapted so that it meets their needs. The ethos of our school means all children feel they can achieve and be the best they can be. Regular assessments inform us how children are progressing in their individual education plans (IEPs) and team around me (TAM) meetings with parents help to ensure we work together to meet the needs of each child. In a few cases, children have an education health and care plan (EHCP) to ensure we have the additional  resources to support them.

We support our vulnerable families with early help plans (EHAT) so that we can ensure that outside agencies are able to work alongside us. Currently we have a small group of children receiving catch-up lessons due to the impact of COVID lockdown. This group are making great progress and developing their confidence and attitude to learning.

We are an inclusive school and believe that all children can succeed if we design our curriculum so that they can access it. If a family have any concerns or complaints regarding the support for their child's SEN needs, they should contact our SENCO, Miss V Allen: vallen@yfps.co.uk and we would hope that all concerns can be quickly sorted out and rectified.

Plymouth uses an orange 'Local Offer icon' to show services that define themselves as suitable for children and young people with SEND. These are part of Plymouth's SEND Local Offer. We recommend that you contact the service provider to make sure the service is suitable for your child or young person.
