Our vision is for Mayflower to be an inclusive academy rich in aspirational values, committed to meeting the needs of our people, and providing outstanding education so that all can strive to achieve the best possible opportunities in life.
To achieve this, we will:
- Provide an inspirational curriculum that is broad and balanced rich in experience, promotes excellence and enables every child to make the most of his or her own distinctive and special talents
- Engage with the wider community to break down boundaries, broaden horizons and provide high-quality learning experiences, both in and out of school, that help children develop a love of learning new things and a strong sense of citizenship
- Promote an inclusive learning culture that values and respects all people equally, where diversity is seen as a rich source of learning and all demonstrate tolerance and mutual respect
- Provide a stimulating learning environment where positive learning behaviours are the norm and all young people are safe, challenged in their thinking and encouraged to explore, dream and discover their world in order to open up their career and life choices
An academy is a different way of managing a school. Rather than being the responsibility of the local authority (Plymouth City Council), an academy is managed by a trust, which is set up by the regional school commissioner.
Clubs
We work with providers from across the city to provide as many extracurricular opportunities as possible. We call these opportunities clubs. Some of our most exciting work happens as part of these clubs, and we believe that is because pupils have choice in how their clubs are run. Although clubs are a voluntary part of the school day to attend, we have many pupils attending.
After-School Club
Every weekday, we run a very popular after-school club, which is also held in the restaurant but often uses other areas of the school for various activities.
There is an exciting programme of activities that takes place on different days of the week, including cooking, arts and crafts, table tennis, computing, board games and puzzles, and activities in the playground (weather permitting).
If you need an emergency place at After School Club and have not booked in advance, please call the school office. You may be able to book a place on the day (when booked before 11am) if there are spaces remaining; however, we cannot guarantee that this will be the case.
Breakfast Club
Our breakfast club runs 5 days a week. The doors open at 7.30 am, and they run until 8.40 am, when the children are free to enter their classrooms at the start of the school day. The children are provided with a choice of cereals and a cold drink.
