Tamar Bridge Volunteer Ambassadors

The Tamar Bridge is seeking new volunteers to help with the running of the Bridging the Tamar Visitor and Learning Centre, situated at the Tamar Bridge.

They have a small core of valued and dedicated volunteers who are central to the day-to-day running of the Visitor and Learning Centre. They offer a range of roles that our volunteers can choose from; the roles are interchangeable. Bridge Guides give guided tours; Welcome Hosts welcome groups for tours and school workshops; and Research and Archive Volunteers find out more about the histories of the bridges and the surrounding areas.

Entry to the centre is free, and the centre is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day. Volunteer Bridge Ambassadors are on hand to welcome visitors, deliver tours of the centre and local area, and support school visits. The events programme that volunteers support includes the Plymouth History Festival, Heritage Open Days, special anchorage tours, and local regattas, amongst other things. In addition, they host some online events throughout the year that require assistance from volunteers. Guided talks are led by volunteers on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Applications are being invited if people are interested in joining. Those interested will have an informal interview, followed by a full induction and training process. No prior knowledge of history or engineering is necessary, and the most important thing is that they enjoy helping and meeting people from all walks of life.

If you feel you or someone you know could spare an hour or two a week helping the Visitor Centre, they are keen to hear from you. It is a great way to meet a range of interesting people, improve personal and social well-being, and have a positive impact on local communities.
